The Story Shout blog

Aristotle

It was Aristotle who said that a good story should have a beginning, a middle and an end [1]. Despite many of us learning this from an early age, we often fail to grasp this basic advice when inventing and telling a story.

When you first start to play the game you will find it difficult to weave a 3-part structure into the story. You will most likely ad-lib the story bit by bit as each glyph fades away.

Try to think of the WHOLE story — the central plot idea (what Hollywood screen-writers call the Action-Idea) — and then divide into a beginning, middle and end.

Is it hard?

Hell yeah!

But that’s what makes it fun, exciting and real creativity workout for the mind. You will be much stronger for it and a more creative dude for sure.

[1] – The plot structure, called Mythos, is discussed by Aristotle in his Poetics.
